Designing the structure of a web site is very much like building a house.
When you have a soundly designed web site structure, you then will have a pretty good idea how different pages, media, and other files are located.

Its important that site structure be well thought out in the beginning, since any later changes require more resources as the time goes by.

A site structure typically looks much like a flow chart, which shows how information flows from one part of the site to the other. It also shows how various parts of the site relate together hierarchically and reciprocally keeping in mind important factors the target audience, amount of content, scalability, and resources among other factors.

This will describe important information such as where which piece of furniture is going to be, how it is going to be positioned in relation with other pieces, how it would be oriented,... A good interior design plan will use the space available in the room most efficiently, considering the number of furniture items designated for that room, and significance of each piece, so that important pieces are conveniently located.
